Patrick Hughes: Multiples

18 February - 18 March 2021

Alon Zakaim Fine Art is proud to present Patrick Hughes: Multiples - an exclusive online exhibition featuring a carefully curated selection of limited edition multiples created between 1998 and 2020, direct from the artist's studio.

Born in Birmingham in 1939, Patrick Hughes is a self-taught artist who developed his signature Reverspective style in his early career, responding to the architectural forms of surrealists such as Rene Magritte and M.C. Escher, as well as monolithic figures in the world of modern and contemporary art. By reversing our conventional sense of perspective in three-dimensional works that shift along with the position of the viewer, Hughes pays a surreal homage to the past. Among the works on view, Edward Hopper's moody interiors twist and turn with artificial shadows, walls lined with Banksy's street art sit back-to-back, and networks of Venetian canals appear in mind-bending perspective.

Spanning a period of just under a quarter of a century, the multiples on display represent a vast breadth of the artist's work, each reproduced by hand at a more domestic scale through a combination of printing and hand-painting.

Patrick Hughes: Multiples presents a unique opportunity to view a snapshot of the artist's illustrious career. The works can be viewed individually in videos, giving a detailed sense of the works 'moving'.
