Lorenzo Agius | In the Mood
14 September - 14 October 2009
Photographer Lorenzo Agius, from 14th September - 14th October 2009. Exhibiting on Cork Street for the first time, Lorenzo Agius' exhibition presents an exclusive selection of his most celebrated portraits available as limited editions to the public.
In the Mood follows Lorenzo Agius' colourful affair with 'celebrity' over the past two decades. Expertly capturing the character and individuality of each of his sitters, Agius' images flaunt stylistic brilliance and bubble with personality. Featuring the major icons of our time, from Tom Cruise to Madonna, the varying and often polar characters he portrays find fusion through Agius himself: the artist taking pictures of artists. In every image Agius tunes into the creativity of his subjects and successfully reflects the mood of a moment and the person in that moment. The results are natural and accessible and in each case reflect the artist's eye for light and composition and his strong imagination for narrative.
Lorenzo Agius' own personality runs steadily throughout the collection. Enjoying British imagery, he celebrates local culture and stereotypes in both his chosen subjects and settings. It is hard to find a photograph that doesn't include a reference to British culture, be it fish and chips, boiled eggs and soldiers or an English country garden. The mood is light and refreshing and humour is ever present.
Lorenzo Agius is considered one of the most successful celebrity photographers of our time. Since shooting to great prominence with his seminal shots taken for the cult movie Trainspotting, the artist has made a major impact on contemporary photography world wide, working with numerous household names including Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson, Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley. Lorenzo Agius is currently exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery, London and in two major public exhibitions in Moscow.
In the Mood will be launched at Alon Zakaim Fine Art from the 14th September - 14th October 2009. Coinciding with Agius' museum exhibition, 30 Days of Fashion, to be held at the Natural History Museum, London on September 21st 2009, the photographer is set to receive a lot of public attention in the UK during this time.
