Georges Terzian: La Carte à Jouer

22 February - 30 March 2012

Alon Zakaim Fine Art is proud to announce the opening of Georges Terzian: La Carte à Jouer, our second solo show of the paintings of the French Neo-Cubist. Featuring works spanning thirty years of the artist's prolific career, our Cork Street gallery will showcase Terzian's stylistic evolution and continuous experimentation. From his early still lifes and Parisian street scenes, paying homage to the great legacy of Modernism, the compositions develop a new fluidity and freedom from representational content in the later, more fractured works. These culminate in the mechanical imagery of the artist's later period, in which planes of pure colour contrast with the increasingly industrial compositions.

Born in Marseille in 1939, Terzian settled in Paris in the 1960s. Originally trained as a musician under the tutelage of Jean Lumiére, the artist supported himself by playing in venues in the French capital whilst devoting himself increasingly to painting. The influence of this stage in his career is evident in his later works, with imagery of score sheets and instruments being prevalent in his paintings.

The works of Georges Terzian have been exhibited internationally and have been acquired by numerous public and private collections across the globe. In recent years he has performed extremely well on the secondary market, with works included in both the New York and London sales of Christie's and Sotheby's. He was recently cited as the 'artist to watch' by Christies due to the impressive results his paintings have achieved.
