Impressionist and Modern

13 June - 27 July 2012

Alon Zakaim Fine Art is proud to announce their Impressionist and Modern 2012 exhibitions, being held at both their Dover Street and Cork Street galleries. A selection of important recent acquisitions will be displayed at each site, including works by Bonnard, Degas, van Rysselberghe, Anquetin, and Herbin.

Our Dover Street gallery presents a split-level exhibition; key works charting the evolution of Impressionism reveal the revolutionary explorations by the exponents of the period. The important developments made by Henri Lebasque in his sensuous work Nu Debout au Collier, and Federico Zandomeneghi in the rich and romantic tones of The Bouquet, are expanded upon as artists such as Henri Martin, Armand Guillaumin, Gustave Loiseau, and Blanche Hoschede-Monet in her beautiful and dense depictions of Claude Monet's garden in Giverny, redefine the parameters of the technical possibilities of Impressionism.

The first floor of our Dover Street space is dedicated to the work of Robert Marc. An important figure in the post-cubist movement during the 1960s, his work has in recent years seen a huge renewal of interest due to the complex compositional structures he employs and sophistication of his painterly technique. With an increasingly strong secondary market, Robert Marc has been rediscovered as an important artist who immersed himself not only in mastering the handling of paint but also the emotional possibilities inherent in his own style of cubism.

The Cork Street gallery exhibits works which reveal the highly experimental and diverse artistic techniques being employed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Edgar Degas's Groupe de Danseuses, recently included in the Royal Academy's Degas exhibition, is displayed alongside Pierre Bonnard's delicate Vase des Fleurs. These, and later works by Gustave Loiseau, Gaston la Touche and Victor Charreton, contrast with the bold and gestural abstract periods of Auguste Herbin during the 1930s and Tamara de Lempicka in the 1950s.

The exhibitions will run at Alon Zakaim Fine Art, 5 - 7 Dover Street and 30 Cork Street, from 13th June - 27th July 2012. Gallery opening hours are 9am - 6pm, Mon - Fri, or by appointment.
