Guilty Pleasures | Kate Brinkworth | Kim Sung Jin

14 October - 29 October 2008

Alon Zakaim Fine Art has the pleasure of hosting Guilty Pleasures, a collection of the latest oil on canvas paintings by Kate Brinkworth and Kim Sung Jin. Presenting their debut exhibition on Cork Street, Alon Zakaim Fine Art unites two photorealist artists, painting a vision of magnified reality.

Working meticulously in oil, Brinkworth and Sung Jin use the language of photography to paint with bold precision. By enlarging their subjects beyond rational proportion the images become hyper-real in their overbearing volume and form.

Kate Brinkworth has exhibited widely throughout the UK and North America since 2001. Stemming from a curiosity in the effects of photography, Brinkworth's colourful still lives are portrayed in varying degrees of focus. Working with an accomplished hand and a precise technique, Brinkworth skilfully deceives our perception in each of her playful scenes.

Kim Sung Jin studied and lives in Seoul, Korea. He has exhibited widely across South East Asia since 2000 and won the Sosabul Art Festival, PyungTaekHo Museum, Grand Prize in 2004. Sung Jin uses the effects of photography as a launch pad from which he forges his glistening amplifications of reality. Reducing his representation of the human form to their lips, Sung Jin suggests a deeply sensuous intimacy in each anonymous subject.

In Guilty Pleasures there is a suggestion of a shared temptation. Every enticing sweet, roll of a dice or lustful kiss presents a glossy vision of indulgence. The bright canvases draw us in with instant attraction, and we are invited to openly feast upon the guilty contents.
