The earth gets tired of being exploited.
- Ernest Hemingway, Green Hills of Africa (1935)
“Remembering Tim, the formidable tusker of Amboseli National Park.
A year has gone since his passing of natural causes back in February 2020 and the pandemic affecting the world is still very much around.
In Kenya, another pandemic is affecting the wildlife: cash for land.
Aggressive agricultural companies are pursuing expansion in wildlife-rich rangelands to unprecedented levels.
Amboseli is one of the last places in the country with a healthy elephant population, including some of the few remaining large tuskers, many of them descendants of Tim.
Will they still roam free?” - Michel Ghatan
I gently fall on my knees and take his portrait with a 35mm lens. It’s a defined moment in your life that gives you goosebumps like nothing else and I will always treasure this image.” - Michel Ghatan
