Thomas-François Cartier

(French, 1879-1943)

Thomas François Cartier was a French sculptor, born in Marseilles, France, in 1879. Cartier specialized in the animalier style, depicting anatomically-correct yet romanticized forms of the animal world. Common models for Cartier include hunting dogs and big cats. Little has been written on the sculptor, however, Cartier’s work in the Paris Salons earned him a Gold Medal in 1927.
