Alfred Jensen was a great theoretician of his time, which was also reflected in his paintings. Wieland Schmied wrote in the 1973 exhibition catalogue: "The number of systems of order into which Alfred Jensen immersed himself is seemingly unlimited: The calendars of the Maya and the Inca and the blueprints of the Mexican and Egyptian pyramids, Indian and Chinese number systems, scripts, symbols and hieroglyphs, the rule of the golden section and the Pythagorean theorem, the teachings of the Pythagoreans and the Orphics, the signs and houses of the zodiac, the Delphic oracle and the divinations of the I Ching, Leonardo da Vinci's writings and Goethe's theory of colours."
Directions in Cool Color, Directions in Warm Color formed part of a major exhibition tour in 1973 and found its new owners at its last stop in the Kunsthalle Bern and remained in the same family until now.
