Alexander Calder was an acclaimed and influential American artist whose career spanned much of the 20th century. He developed a new method of sculpting by blending and twisting wire to create three-dimensional figures in space. Although best known for his mobiles, Calder's oeuvre also included a vast repertoire of signature paintings and drawings.
Created 3 years before his death, Plumbings IIpresents a rare departure from Calder's late monumental, abstract works. In this colourful portrayal, Calder revisits the industrial materials which inspired and informed so much of his artisticpractice.
